Jessica Straus is a sculptor from the Boston area. Working primarily in carved and painted wood and incorporating found objects, she explores the poetry of unexpected juxtapositions between recognizable and invented forms. Alternating between narrative and abstraction, Straus's well crafted sculpture is infused with a quirky, yet subtle, humor and a finely tuned sense of aesthetics. Her studio is in the Brickbottom Artists Building in Somerville, MA. Her artwork is represented by the Boston Sculptors Gallery in the SOWA district of Boston. You can get the latest updates on her exhibitions and other art news by checking out her Facebook page.
Here's where you can see my work this year: "Perfect Fit", the shoe exhibition that was up at the Fuller Craft Museum this past year has traveled on to the Nicolaysen Museum in Casper, Wyoming, May 10 - Sept. 12, 2010. Next it travels to Albany Institute of History and Art, Oct 16 - Jan. 2, 2011 and then to Kimball Art Center, Park City, Utah, Feb. 5 - Apr. 3 2011. This summer (July 7- Aug. 15) there will be an interesting group show at Boston Sculptors Gallery, "Paper" in which I'll be participating. I'll be putting up a wall installation at the Brattleboro Museum in Vermont as part of the exhibition "Reshaping Reality", July 24 - Oct. 24, 2010. You can see my installation of vegetables all summer at the retail gallery at the Society of Arts and Crafts, Boston. I am curating and exhibiting in "Trigger and Reconfigure" at Jewett Art Gallery at Wellesley College, Jan. 22 - Feb. 21, 2011.
